Many of you know that we feed Costco’s Kirkland Adult Maintenance Cat Food. We feel it’s a decent food with essential nutrients and no added toxins like feline-inappropriate fruits and vegetables. It doesn’t hurt that it’s a good value.

The manufacturer, Diamond Pet Foods, has just issued a recall that now includes some of their cat food, including this line. Some of the food was contaminated with salmonella. The tainted bags come from their South Carolina plant.

As of today, May 6 2012, this appears not to involve us because this plant doesn’t ship to Colorado. There is a production code on the bag you can check to make sure. This is what Diamond says on their website:

“To determine if their pet food is recalled, consumers should check the production code on their bag. If the code has a “2” or “3” in the 9th position AND an “X” in the 10th or 11th position, the product is affected by the recall. The best-before dates for the recalled products are December 9, 2012 through April 7, 2013.”

We’ll try to stay on top of this, but if anyone hears anything different, please email us or call at 719-635-5000.
